5 NBA Prospect Debuts: G League Ignite Scrimmage

The first NBA G League Ignite scrimmage took place today in an untelevised event in Walnut Creek, California.

NBA veterans present for this event: Jeremy Lin, Amir Johnson, Bobby Brown and more.

#1: Jonathan Kuminga, F- 6’8″ (18 years old)

Stats: 11/15 FG — 2/5 3PFG — 2/4 FT — 26 PTS — 8 REB — 1 AST — 3 TO — 1 BLK — 3 PF

Kuminga’s stats jumped off the page the most to me, as his jumper from deep was a bit of a concern so it’s excellent to see him hit a couple threes in this game, and I like the 5 attempts. It would be nice to see him shoot high-volume from deep even if he doesn’t sustain this efficiency. Top 5 prospect for me in the 2021 NBA Draft.

#2: Jalen Green, SG- 6’5″ (19 years old)

Stats: 8/15 FG — 1/4 3PFG — 5/5 FT — 22 PTS — 7 REB — 0 AST — 3 TO — 2 PF

Green is likely a top 7 pick this year due to his freakish athleticism and ability to get buckets. There are concerns over his feel and ability to get others involved as was highlighted by his zero assists and 3 turnovers, though it’s tough to jump to conclusions without seeing the film. He’s someone to keep an eye on, as he has shades of Anthony Edwards in his game.

#3: Daishen Nix, PG- 6’5″ (18 years old)

Stats: 4/6 FG — 1/3 3PFG — 0/0 FT — 9 PTS — 9 AST — 3 REB — 3 STL — 2 TO — 0 PF

Nix is a point guard to watch in a draft where outside of Cade Cunningham, there aren’t many highly rated freshman PG’s that are living up to the hype, and he’s someone I could see playing his way into the lottery at this rate. He’s a very composed, high IQ/feel for the game and has plus size. He’s a tremendous passer that uses manipulation and change of pace to offset his lack of burst and raw athleticism. He can also play some defense with his combo of size and strength. I’m looking forward to tracking his growth.

#4: Isaiah Todd, F- 6’10” (19 years old)

Stats: 2/9 FG — 0/5 3PFG — 4/4 FT — 8 PTS — 6 REB — 0 AST — 1 STL — 1 TO – 1 PF

#5: Kai Sotto, C- 7’2″ (18 years old)

Stats: 1/5 FG — 0/1 3PFG — 3/4 FT — 5 PTS — 5 REB — 2 BLK — 0 AST — 2 TO – 1 PF
