Collaborative 2021 NBA Mock Draft

An individual completing a solo mock draft is both unrealistic and somewhat boring, as the end result is mostly a reflection of their own big board or personal preferences. I’ve discovered over the years that the best way to gain unbiased or insightful results on mock drafts are combining folks that are plugged in with differing opinions (and boards) to make the selections.

For this exercise, I invited 6 guests to serve as GM for 5 different teams each and make the selections to complete our very first collaborative 2021 NBA Mock Draft. It was decided to only do the 1st round this time, but in the next collaboration we’ll be sure to push that to round 2 as we get closer to the draft.

At the conclusion of this draft I listed my top 7 “UDFA’s” along with some of my favorite picks from the draft from a value and team-fit perspective.

Participants: Henry Ward, Jake Rosen, Will Morris, Cosmis, Robel, and PD Web!

Note: The order was randomized via the great Tankathon, and there was quite the shake up at the top with the Bulls winning the lottery and the Thunder leaping 6 spots.

Lottery

  • 1. Chicago Bulls- (@Cosmis) Cade Cunningham, PG- Oklahoma St.
  • 2. Oklahoma City Thunder- (@Henrywward) Evan Mobley, C- USC
  • 3. Orlando Magic- (@Robeltussin) Jalen Suggs, PG- Gonzaga

Next 7 on my board: (missed the cut)

  • 1. Josh Giddey, PG- Adelaide 36ers
  • 2. Daishen Nix, PG- Ignite
  • 3. Tre Mann, PG- Florida
  • 4. Davion Mitchell, G- Baylor
  • 5. David Duke, G- Providence
  • 6. Sando Mamukelishveli, F/C- Seton Hall
  • 7. Day’Ron Sharpe, C- UNC

Favorite Picks:

note: These are a combination of my favorite value plays and/or my favorite team-fits.

  • 1. Jalen Green dropping to 11 is the value play of the draft no matter how you feel about him.
  • 2. PD’s first two picks of Ziaire to Golden State and Kispert to Memphis are picture perfect puzzle piece type fits around both of those rosters.
  • 3. Bouknight to the Hornets would be ridiculously fun… giving LaMelo both Miles Bridges and James Bouknight to throw lobs to would elevate them even higher on my league pass rankings. Jake’s pick of Jaygup at 28 was a nice value as well.
  • 4. Terrence Shannon Jr. makes a ton of sense for the Kings who are desperate for wing defenders + athleticism.
  • 5. Kessler Edwards in Denver would be another awesome fit. BJ Boston landing in Toronto’s development system is intriguing as well.
  • 6. The 76ers winding up with Bones Hyland would also be a ton of fun, give that team all that shooting.

That concludes our very first 2021 NBA Mock Draft, hope you enjoyed! Which pick was your favorite? Who are you shocked that was snubbed from the top 30 picks? Comment below or reply via twitter.
